Now that Carlos is back, he needed to go out and get a new license, phone etc. One of Carlos’ co-workers wasn’t feeling well, this morning, so their boss told them to just take the day off, as he already knew that Carlos had some things he needed to get done.
The girls were happy to have their daddy along for the ride on the way to school. Emily’s hair bows were sent up from Mexico with Carlos. They were a gift from his mom (Emily’s abuelita). Ashley was given some cute bows too.
After running all of our errands, we stopped to get lunch at a teriyaki restaurant. This was the first picture that Carlos took with his new phone. I’m sad, not to be able to see all the pictures that he had taken on his trip to Mexico, as they were on his phone that was stolen. I’m just so glad that Carlos is home now and safe! Now he has a new phone, with plenty of space for new pictures.
Thursday, March 1st
The rest of the week found us super busy. High school soccer practice had started, which means that Carlos and the boys have full days….6am to 5:30 or 6pm. I had been trying to get everyone back on track and ready for the new season. When Emily had gotten off the school bus, she ran straight to me and started crying. She said that her ear was hurting. Once at home, I gave her some acetaminophen. I was hoping it might be a small earache, and that it would go away on its own. That evening, she was able to lay down and watch some TV, but she still was not herself. By 7pm, she ended up crying herself to sleep because of the ear pain. Carlos and I were prepared to possibly have to take her to ER in the middle of the night, but we were hoping it would not come to that. We let her sleep with us…which meant we didn’t sleep well either, but I think it helped Emily to know that we were right there. She would wake up, move around and whimper in her sleep. Then sometime after 1am, she began to sleep better.
Friday, March 2nd
At about 5:45 am, Emily needed to get up and use the bathroom. She was stumbling around in the dark and we realized that she didn’t have good balance, as if she was dizzy. Carlos turned on the light and we saw that liquid was draining from her ear. Emily said that her ear didn’t hurt as much anymore, so whatever happened must have relieved some pressure for her. Carlos went to work and told me that he would see if he could come home later, since we would more than likely be taking Emily to the doctor. Emily was able to fall back asleep, but by 6:45 she was up and vomiting. Our children’s pediatrician had just recently moved offices and we had not been out to the new clinic that he had joined. When I called, they said that he did not work on Fridays, but that she could be seen at their urgent care facility. This was a 40 minute drive and with the way that Emily could not hold anything down and was feeling dizzy, we decided not to make the drive. Carlos came home just in time. We went to our local ER which is just about 10 minutes or so away…and she still threw up once on the way there!
Here is my precious girl. You can tell she was not feeling well. I lost track of how many times she threw up. The pain wasn’t very bad anymore, but being dizzy and not being able to move around much or hold anything down is not that great either. Carlos stayed out in the waiting room. He wanted to come back to be with Emily as well, but it probably worked out so that we would not have to all squeeze in the room with Ian and David too. I feel bad that Carlos has missed work more than once because we haven’t had anyone to take Ian, but I am working on getting him respite care.
Emily had a bad middle ear infection and some disequilibrium going on. During the drive home, she threw up one more time and then fell asleep. She was prescribed some augmentin and some odansetron for the nausea and vomiting. She slept until about 4pm, which was probably much-needed. When she woke up, I started her on the odansetron and gave her a little sprite. After a while she tried a popsicle. My mom stopped by and brought Emily a get well balloon and a bag of those little oranges for the kids to share. The rest of the night she sipped on sprite and ate popsicle and had an orange. By 8pm, she was able to walk to the bathroom with my hands out in front of her and she only needed to grab them once. We let her sleep on the couch in the living room, instead of upstairs so that she would be closer to us if she needed us. Then Ashley wanted to sleep in the living room too. So, she slept on the floor next to the couch where Emily was in case Em needed help getting to us or the bathroom. Good thing it was a Friday night!
Saturday, March 3rd
Carlos and the boys headed out to an early morning 8am practice. I stayed home and contemplated on rather or not we should go out-of-town. We had already planned an out-of-town shopping trip to WinCo for some much need grocery shopping, and to look for a jacket for Emily, soccer cleats for Carlitos and a swimsuit for Ashley. Plus, Carlos had promised the younger kids that he was going to take them to Chuck E. Cheese when he came home from Mexico. I kind of waited around to see how Emily was feeling. She threw up once in the morning, but did alright after that. She even went upstairs and played barbies with her sister for a little bit. We only
We ended up heading out around 1pm, since Emily seemed to be doing alright. We went to Chuck E. Cheese first and found all the items on our list. Then we did the grocery shopping last. Carlitos stayed in the car with the kids (and Ian) and turned on a movie for them, so that they could just relax and Carlos & I could get in and out of the store quickly.
David had fun going on the rides. I walked around with Emily. She was happy taking things slow and she didn’t run around at all. She enjoyed playing a few games. I’d say they had fun. Now, Carlos has a few more pictures for his new cell phone. 🙂
