Emily had her follow-up appt today, from visiting the ER on Friday. Her doctor said things were looking better and that she would just need one more check in 4-6 weeks.
We had been invited to go to a birthday party that evening. Carlos’ friend from work, Gabriel’s son was turning 2. We went over and had birria. I’m sure Carlos enjoyed it. This is something we have never tried making. We’ve done tamales, chilies rellenos, homemade tortillas….but we haven’t tried making birria….yet!
We played around on daddy’s new phone for a little bit, while they were setting up the birthday cake. I was glad to be able to go to the party. It made me remember how shy my kiddos are. It took them a while to warm up and go play. It was nice to get them out around others, especially those who speak Spanish. Emily and David had a good time. The party was Paw Patrol themed…..David loves paw patrol. We bought Mateo (the birthday boy), a little people toy. I hope he liked it.

Today I made Mexican Lentil Soup for lunch.
Today at school, our Carlitos was nominated for the School Awards Ceremony. Here he is posing for a pic with the girls giving him his nomination letter and invitation. This event will be held later this month. I’m not sure what he is being nominated for, although I can take a couple of guesses. I will let you know more, once we go to the event.
When things get busy, sometimes I forget to capture the little things. So, here is David in the tub before dinner. I knew we were going to be having a late dinner, so I figured I better get the bath done before everyone came home from soccer practice. Taking those little moments to enjoy each other in between the busy rushes of the day are important.
That night for family home evening (Yes, we did FHE this week on Tuesday instead of Wednesday), we ate dinner and watched the RootsTech closing event, My Family. Mi Herencia. Featuring Luz de Las Naciones, while we ate dinner. It originally took place on March 3, at 6:00 p.m. in the Conference Center on Temple Square. We are hoping to one day be able go to a live event like this with our children. Part of our dinner (and also our treat) was this ensalada invierno (de fruta), which is pictured above.

I don’t have any pictures from today, but I wanted to write a little about Ian. He and I had dentist appointments this day. As for myself, I always get nervous about the dentist, so I get anxiety about going. I was worried about how Ian would do. At home, he has freaked out when floss gets stuck under his fillings and it is hard for us to get him to floss and brush the right way. Last night, I put some latex gloves on and got in his mouth and flossed and brushed his teeth the right way. I was surprised he let me do it. Of course, he pushed my hands away a few times and he wailed a little about it, but he let me complete the task! This morning, I did it again before we went to the dentist. To my surprise, he ended up doing pretty well at the dentist. They couldn’t do x-rays because Ian couldn’t keep the little bite-wings in his mouth, but he did lay down and let the dentist look at his teeth and scrape around in there a little bit, as well as use the cavitron in 2 or 3 places. They didn’t do a full cleaning, but this was a good start. I felt so proud of Ian, that my eyes teared up in the car. I was sure to tell him what a good job he did. I know he is my brother, but it almost felt like he was my own son. Here is a funny tidbit that happened that morning too. When we go to appointments and if there are magazines, Ian will always grab one, flip through it and name pictures of things that he sees in the magazine. I usually sit with him and nod my head or maybe sometimes talk about the picture. Today, he was going through the magazine and he came to an advertisement that had a woman wearing a bra. He pointed at it and said, “Bra!” I will admit that it made me chuckle at the dentist office and probably relieved some of my nervousness. I didn’t know that Ian knew what a bra was! Ha ha!
Jose also had a band concert this evening. Sorry, not pictures though. It was a crazy night, our red car broke down and Carlos was running Ashley’s soccer practice…..but, Emily and I were able to make it over for the concert. Jose has played clarinet for 5 years. Then at the beginning of his junior year, he decided to take a break from band. He is back in band now, but this time around he is trying out percussion. It was nice to see him play again.
Saturday, March 10th
Carlos and the boys had an early morning soccer practice. Afterward, the weather decided to show off some signs of spring. It was sunny, but still cold as you can see the girls in their jackets. Carlos was working on the car that our boys drive (the red car). Something had broken down on it earlier during the week. He took the time take Emily’s training wheels off and help her ride for a bit. (I was behind the camera, of course!) The girls had fun playing outside. The picture to the right is all the “flowers” David picked for me while playing outside today. He is so sweet!
