Thanksgiving Week

Monday, November 21st

For our family home evening activity, one of the kids decided to play Mario Kart on the Wii. The kids hardly ever play the Wii anymore, but tonight they had a blast. We had fudge or strawberry sundaes for dessert. The kids had fun playing with each other in between their turns for Mario Kart.

dsc01548Today, I put everyone’s clothes away and tidied up the bedrooms. David got a hold of Daddy’s old cowboy hat and wore it for quite a while. He also started climbing up the outside of the crib. I took a quick picture and then lifted him up and into his crib, where he played for a little bit. My husband had a late afternoon doctor appointment, which was out-of-town. The appointment went well. Carlos treated me to dinner at the Olive Garden, after the appointment.

Thursday, November 24th ~ Thanksgiving

dsc01551When David woke up this morning he was still a little sleepy, and he fell back to sleep after I got him out of his crib. So, I put him down in my bed and I went straight to work in the kitchen. Thanks little guy! I was a little stressed about cooking for Thanksgiving this year, because I usually do all my baking the day before. Since Carlos had his appointment yesterday, I didn’t get to do that. Plus, I didn’t have Carlos’ help with the turkey, because he had to work. No homemade bread or homemade pies this year, but it turned out alright.

This was a little later, after David was up and had already had breakfast. I think we were all in p.j.’s or sweats for half the day. It was cute, they called me out of the kitchen to see what they had made. I complimented them on their castle. Emily then replied, “Mom it’s not a castle, it’s a temple!” I love these little ones and their sweet spirits. That was something nice, during a kind of stressful morning.

Here is our completed dinner. Part way through the day, I called my mom and asked her to come over early and help me prep the turkey and get it into the oven. It was nice to have her help out with some of the other prep too. We ended up eating our Thanksgiving meal around 4pm. Without my mom, it probably would have been even later.

I did make bake one thing in the morning, before the we put the turkey in the oven. That was the pumpkin roll. It is a favorite of my husband Carlos and my older two boys. I wanted Carlos to be able to have his favorite, since he had to work from 6am-3pm.

By the time everyone was ready to eat, little David had fallen asleep. David had not taken his nap, because he had slept in that morning. Thanksgiving was small but nice. It was just my family, plus my mom and her boyfriend.

We took pictures of our “Thanksgiving door.” This is the door that goes out from our eating space off the kitchen, into the laundry room. One day, both refrigerator were full of photos and artwork. I decided to hang some of it on the door, and it just kind of became the seasonal artwork area. The girls and I ended the night by playing a game of “sorry.”

Carlos took David on a father-son outing. They went and got hair cuts together and played at the arcade. I took this photo of them after they came home. (David was eating a leftover dinner roll) Later, I had asked Emily how she liked david’s haircut. Her response was, “It looks fabulous!” I love Emily’s vocabulary for her age.

Sunday, November 27th

These were taken today after church. It was hard to get David and Emily to stay still and look at the camera. I was hoping to use one of these for Christmas cards, but my memory on my camera was full. I will be trying another time to get a good Christmas card photo. Our ward is putting together a family choir that will be singing on Christmas at church, and Ashley decided to join it today. ?
